Germany summons Russian ambassador over 'direct threats'

The German Foreign Ministry summoned Ambassador Sergey Nechayev over "direct threats" from Russia targeting "objectives" in the country.

"These threats are an attempt to undermine support for Ukraine and test our solidarity. Our message is clear: never yield to intimidation. Challenging actions and all espionage activities on German territory are completely unacceptable", the German Foreign Ministry stated on 20/4.

The ministry did not specify the "direct threats" and declined to provide further information when contacted.

The Russian embassy also offered no comment.

Last week, the Russian Ministry of Defense published a list of 21 businesses that Moscow accused of being subsidiaries of Ukrainian defense conglomerates or essential component suppliers for Kyiv. At least ba German companies were on this list, identified as suppliers of drones to Ukraine.

"European citizens need to understand the root causes of threats to their safety and know the locations of 'Ukrainian' and 'joint venture' companies producing drones and components for Ukraine within their own countries", the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federal Security Council, further called the companies on the list "potential military targets", adding that any decision to strike these locations would depend on the course of the conflict in Ukraine.

On the morning of 20/4, Russian authorities arrested a German woman accused of carrying a homemade bomb in her backpack. Moscow claimed this was a Kyiv plot to sabotage a law enforcement agency building in the city of Pyatigorsk.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) stated that the woman, born in 1969, was recruited by a citizen from a Central Asian country working for Ukrainian security services. The bomb was designed for remote detonation and could have killed her.

The FSB accused the Central Asian man, born in 1997, of "supporting extremist ideology". The suspect was arrested near the law enforcement agency building where he and the German woman planned to plant the bomb.

Ukraine has not yet responded to the allegations. A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry said they were aware of the incident but declined further comment due to privacy concerns.
