The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on 24/12 that agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot at a vehicle in Glen Burnie, south of Baltimore, Maryland. This occurred during an operation to apprehend two individuals suspected of illegal immigration.
Reports indicate the driver accelerated directly towards an ICE vehicle as agents approached to conduct an inspection. The vehicle then moved toward agents standing in the road, appearing to intend to strike them, prompting agents to "open fire in self-defense".
The driver was hit by gunfire, lost control, and crashed the vehicle between two buildings, injuring the passenger. Both individuals were transported to a hospital for medical attention.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department stated the gunshot victim is in stable condition, while the other sustained minor injuries. DHS confirmed both occupants of the vehicle were residing illegally in the US, but did not specify if they were arrested.
