Iran responds to Trump's 'ceasefire over' declaration

Iran asserts key memorandum provisions are void following Trump's statement, warning the United States of "dangerous consequences."

"On the morning of 8/7, the United States military flagrantly violated Article two, Clause four of the United Nations Charter by conducting military aggression against monitoring centers along Iran's southern coast," Iran's foreign ministry stated today. "This also severely breached point one of the bilateral memorandum concerning the cessation of hostilities."

The Iranian foreign ministry also criticized the United States Treasury's revocation of temporary waivers for Iranian oil sanctions on 7/7, stating this action violated commitments in point 10 of the memorandum.

"Considering developments in the Hormuz Strait and Israel's ongoing campaign in Lebanon, the memorandum's crucial provisions are no longer effective," the Iranian foreign ministry warned. "The United States will bear full responsibility for the dangerous consequences resulting from this escalation."

This marks Iran's initial response after United States President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with the nation had ended on the same day.

"Negotiating with them is just a waste of time," President Trump said at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, when asked if the ceasefire agreement with Iran was still valid.

President Trump sharply criticized Iran's leadership, stating Tehran "acted unfairly" by attacking commercial ships in the Hormuz Strait, an action perceived as a breach of the ceasefire agreement. He warned the United States could resume airstrikes on targets in Iran.

"We will attack them fiercely tonight," Trump said before meeting his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

The United States military previously announced it launched strikes against over 80 targets in and near the Hormuz Strait in retaliation for "Iran targeting commercial ships passing through the Hormuz Strait." Iranian media reported multiple explosions along the country's southern coast on the morning of 8/7.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated by firing missiles and drones at United States military targets in Kuwait and Bahrain, threatening to expand the scope of attacks if Washington continues its aggression.

Iran urged neighboring Persian Gulf nations to "fulfill their international legal obligations and prevent their territory and facilities from being used to launch attacks against Iran." Tehran affirmed its resolve to defend its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security, ready to respond to the source of any aggression.
