Russia's Ministry of Defense announced today that it conducted a coordinated attack using precision ground-launched weapons targeting defense industry facilities in Kyiv. The ministry stated this action was "in retaliation for Ukrainian military attacks on civilian infrastructure within Russian territory."
"Targets included the Samsung-Ukraine factory, which produces and stores components for fp-5 flamingo cruise missiles, and a workshop for assembling long-range and medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)," the statement read.

Ukraine's Air Force Command earlier stated that Russia deployed five iskander-m and modified s-400 ballistic missiles for ground attack, two kh-31p anti-radar missiles, and 169 suicide and decoy UAVs in this morning's early hours.
"Ukrainian air defense units shot down and suppressed 139 UAVs. Five iskander-m/s-400 ballistic missiles hit four locations, 20 UAVs struck 11 sites, and debris fell in seven areas. Two kh-31p rounds did not reach their targets," the agency reported.
AMK Mapping, an X social media account monitoring the war in Ukraine, reported nine explosions recorded during two attack waves on Kyiv, using five and four missiles respectively. "Air raid sirens sounded after missiles had already struck their targets. Some radars detected missiles as they appeared in Kyiv's sky, but most seemed to detect nothing," the account stated.
Videos shared on social media showed explosions erupting in an area of Kyiv. "This could be the moment four modified s-400 rounds struck, or secondary explosions after earlier iskander-m strikes," AMK Mapping commented.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that missile strikes sparked fires in warehouses in a Kyiv district. He added that "a non-residential building" caught fire, without specifying details. At least two people were injured, with one requiring hospitalization.
This marks Russia's third ballistic missile attack on Kyiv in less than a week. The incidents occurred just before and during the NATO summit in Turkey.
At the summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on partners to increase support for Ukraine's air defense capabilities. He previously stated that Ukraine responds well to unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles but is helpless against ballistic missiles due to a lack of interceptor weapons.
During a large-scale Russian attack in the early morning of 6/7, Ukraine's Air Force admitted it failed to intercept any of the six zircon hypersonic missiles and 23 Russian ballistic missiles deployed. Ukrainian officials also implicitly confirmed that all four zircon hypersonic missiles and 20 iskander-m/s-400 ballistic missiles struck their targets during the attack on Kyiv on 2/7.
