Russia launches barrage of Iskander-M, S-300 missiles in overnight attack on Ukraine

Ukraine's military reported that Russia launched a barrage of Iskander-M and S-300 missiles in an overnight attack, killing at least two people.

Ukraine's Air Force Command announced on 5/1 that Russia used 9 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and converted S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to strike ground targets, along with 165 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), in an overnight assault on the country.

"Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 137 Geran, Gerbera, and other types of UAVs in the northern, eastern, and central regions", the agency stated. "Missiles and 26 UAVs hit 10 locations, with debris falling in 9 areas. Some enemy UAVs remain airborne; everyone must follow safety protocols".

AMK Mapping, an X account monitoring the conflict in Ukraine, reported that 6 Iskander-M ballistic missiles struck an enterprise in Chernihiv city, triggering secondary explosions and igniting a large fire. Several Geran-2 UAVs targeted warehouses and energy infrastructure in the city.

Two Iskander-M missiles struck one target, and several Geran-2 UAVs targeted another location in the Desna residential area, Chernihiv province; related damages are currently unknown.

Dozens of Russian Geran-2 UAVs impacted a 330 kV substation in Slavutich city, Kiev province, causing a city-wide power outage. City officials utilized backup generators while power company employees worked to repair the damage from the attack.

Ukrainian officials reported that at least two people died and one person was injured when Russia attacked the Kiev region. Ukraine's State Emergency Service stated that a fire broke out at a medical facility in Obolonskyi district, northern Kiev.

In a statement on 5/1, Russia's Ministry of Defense announced that its forces attacked Ukrainian defense enterprises, long-range UAV production and assembly workshops, UAV pilot training centers, and enemy force deployment points at 148 locations. However, Russia's Ministry of Defense did not provide specific details on the targets.

Russia and Ukraine have recently intensified attacks on each other's energy infrastructure and critical facilities amid a lack of progress in peace negotiations. Both countries have repeatedly accused the other of attacking civilian targets, while claiming they only target military objectives or facilities supporting the opponent's defense operations.
