Shanghai evacuated 282,800 people considered vulnerable between the night of 29/7 and 10 a.m. on 30/7 in preparation for Typhoon Co-May, China Central Television (CCTV) reported today. Local authorities set up over 1,900 temporary shelters throughout the city.
Heavy rain continued to fall in Shanghai today. The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau raised the storm warning from yellow to orange, the second-highest level on the four-tier warning scale.

Approximately 640 flights, nearly one-third of those scheduled from Shanghai's two international airports, were canceled due to the typhoon. Ferry services were also suspended, while speed limits were imposed on highways. Some subway and train lines were partially suspended.
Typhoon Co-May made landfall in Zhejiang province in eastern China at 4:30 a.m. today, with winds near the center reaching 83 km/h. The typhoon had weakened to a tropical depression after passing over the Philippines but regained strength over the South China Sea.
