A flydubai flight, FZ1073, on 30/9 narrowly avoided disaster when an Omani co-pilot attacked the Indian captain with a weapon to seize control of the cockpit. The incident occurred during a flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to Tel Aviv, Israel, with approximately 180 people on board, primarily Israeli citizens.
During the struggle, the Boeing 737 MAX experienced a sudden and rapid descent. Aviation tracking platforms reported that the flydubai aircraft lost over 4,300 meters in altitude within 37 seconds, at times reaching near-supersonic speeds. Such speeds typically exceed the operational limits for commercial aircraft.
Despite his injuries, the captain managed to open the cockpit door, allowing a small group of passengers and crew members to intervene and subdue the co-pilot. Two reserve pilots, who were on board the flight, then assisted in safely landing the aircraft at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia.
