Thai authorities recently uncovered a partially constructed online scam complex in Cambodia. Lieutenant General Jirabhob Bhuridej, deputy commander of the Thai Anti-Scam Technology Center (ACSC), announced the discovery of the facility on 5/1. It is located in Malai city, Banteay Meanchey province, approximately 50 km from Cambodia's Poipet border town and opposite Thailand's Sa Kaeo province. This discovery comes amidst ongoing regional efforts to combat sophisticated online fraud.
The complex, still under construction, features two-story buildings designed with separate operational and living areas, near Malai park. General Jirabhob stated, "Inside, there are workers from many countries, including Thai, Indian, and Indonesian nationals, while the supervisory team is primarily Chinese citizens."

Bangkok reported that this scam hub was uncovered following coordinated efforts among Thailand, China, and Myanmar aimed at dismantling online scam networks along the border. General Jirabhob explained that online scam organizations have retreated deeper into Cambodian territory after border clashes between Bangkok and Phnom Penh erupted last month.
The scale of the problem is significant, with Thai police recording 6,369 scam cases between 28/12/2025 and 3/1. These incidents resulted in total damages exceeding 220 million baht (7 million USD). General Jirabhob warned that the scam problem is becoming increasingly serious and complex. ACSC is acting quickly to prevent more people from becoming victims. ACSC predicts that future scam groups will leverage artificial intelligence to develop more sophisticated operating methods and target victims more precisely.
Cambodia has not yet commented on this information.
