The Middle East after one month of conflict

Middle Eastern citizens have endured a series of attacks, while global oil and gas supplies have been destabilized by the conflict involving Iran over the past month.

Smoke and fire rise during an Israeli airstrike targeting the Qasmiya bridge in Lebanon, aimed at preventing Hezbollah from transferring weapons and reinforcements across the Litani river to the south.

The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Tehran, which erupted on 28/2, has now lasted one month. This has resulted in over 3,000 fatalities across the Middle East, with more than 1,900 deaths in Iran.

The image shows Tehran rescue forces sifting through rubble to locate victims trapped in a building destroyed by an airstrike on 23/3.

The US and Israel declared they had almost crippled Iran's missile capabilities. However, over the past four weeks, Tehran has continuously launched ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at targets across the Middle East. These actions are in retaliation for enemy airstrikes.

On 24/3, Iran launched 7 missile barrages in less than 10 hours at targets in Israel. At least 4 locations in the capital Tel Aviv were hit by missiles, injuring 6 people.

These attacks occurred after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would continue airstrikes against Iran. This was despite US President Donald Trump recently announcing he "is talking to the right people and Iran wants a deal very badly," without naming specifics.

Iranian officials denied reports of negotiations with the US, affirming that Tehran "has no intention to negotiate."

Some Israelis have moved completely underground, either due to a lack of shelters in poorer residential areas or because of mobility difficulties.

The Strait of Hormuz, a route for 20% of the world's oil supply, has been almost paralyzed over the past month. Shipping traffic decreased by 95% compared to before the conflict, as Iran attacked nearly 20 vessels passing through the area.

Iranian officials announced on 26/3 that they would permit vessels from 5 "friendly nations" to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. These nations include India, Pakistan, Iraq, China, and Russia. However, Tehran has also repeatedly warned it would still target vessels linked to Israel, the US, and their allies.

One day earlier, Tehran threatened to open a new front, targeting Red Sea shipping if the US launched a ground operation against Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on 24/3 that the country's military would occupy the area extending to the Litani river in southern Lebanon to create a "defensive buffer zone." This river is approximately 30 km from the border between the two countries.

This marks the first time Israel has publicly declared its intention to occupy a large territory, equivalent to nearly one-tenth of its neighboring country's area.

After the US, Israel, and Iran conflict erupted, pro-Tehran militia groups in Iraq repeatedly attacked Washington's infrastructure, including the US embassy in Baghdad. The US responded with multiple airstrikes against these groups.

Residents mourn relatives killed in an attack on 24/3, in Anbar, western Iraq.

This airstrike resulted in 7 deaths and 13 injuries. Iraq accused the US of carrying out the airstrike against the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a coalition of pro-Iran militia groups that are now part of Iraq's armed forces.

The intense bombardments by the US and Israel are believed to have somewhat weakened Iran's ability to retaliate with missiles and UAVs, but they have not completely destroyed the country's long-range strike capabilities.
