"If we don't get the right answer, things are going to move very quickly. We are ready to act," President Donald Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews, near Washington D.C., on 20/5. "Negotiations are on a razor's edge, believe me."
President Trump indicated that the parties would save "a lot of time, energy, and lives" if Iran reached an agreement. He suggested this scenario "could happen very quickly or within a few days."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced on the same day that Tehran "has received and is reviewing the US's viewpoints." He reiterated Iran's demands, such as the release of frozen assets and an end to the US blockade on the country's seaports.
Previously, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who leads Tehran's negotiation delegation, accused the US of seeking to reignite war after Trump threatened new attacks if the two sides failed to reach a deal.
Ghalibaf warned of a "strong response," while Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared that any renewed conflict would spread beyond the Middle East.

The US and Iran began a ceasefire on 8/4 to negotiate a diplomatic solution to the conflict that erupted in late February. These efforts have not yet achieved a breakthrough, while both sides continue to attack each other. Trump has repeatedly threatened to resume the campaign, and Iranian officials have issued corresponding escalation warnings.
The White House chief said on 19/5 that he was "one hour away" from deciding to resume the campaign against Iran but postponed that order. He referred to a statement made the day before, when he announced he had delayed plans to attack Iran after receiving proposals from Gulf countries.
