On the evening of 26/7, eight suspects armed with assault rifles stormed a bar in Wedela, west of Johannesburg, South Africa, killing 17 people, comprising 13 men and four women.

The police stated that the gunmen appeared to have robbed several patrons of their mobile phones before setting fire to two vehicles and fleeing the scene in two cars. The shooting also left 15 people injured.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police confirmed that investigation teams and specialized units have been deployed to hunt down the suspects.

A second shooting occurred early this morning when gunmen stormed an entertainment venue in Lwandle, a Cape Town suburb, opening fire on those present. This attack resulted in at least 10 fatalities and 11 injuries.

South Africa, a nation with over 62 million people, faces one of the world's highest murder rates, averaging 60 fatalities daily. Shootings frequently arise from gang rivalries or disputes among informal businesses.

In March, the South African military was deployed to violence hotspots in Johannesburg to assist police in crime suppression. President Cyril Ramaphosa has described crime as "one of the greatest threats to the country".
