Wicharit Leelakorn, owner of a two-story house in Hat Yai, Songkhla province, southern Thailand, recently demonstrated his method for keeping his home dry amidst severe flooding.
Following the first flood on 21/11 that inundated his home, Wicharit meticulously prepared for the second wave this week. He sealed his gate with a large tarp and employed a water pump to remove incoming water, effectively controlling the water level. This strategy ensured that only a minimal amount of water seeped past his gate, leaving the rest of his house dry.

To ensure continuous operation of the water pump, Wicharit also prepared a diesel-powered generator, anticipating potential power outages during the flood. He noted that running the pump only required about 1,5 liters of fuel.
Wicharit’s post quickly circulated across Thai social media, earning widespread praise. Many lauded his house as "the only dry spot in Hat Yai". He also extended help to neighbors, allowing them to charge their phones after the area experienced power cuts.
The Thai government reported on 28/11 that floods in the southern region had claimed at least 145 lives. Songkhla province was among the most severely affected, with over 100 fatalities.
