White House spokesperson recounts her appointment call with Trump

Leavitt revealed President Trump informed her she would be the White House press secretary with a single sentence during a call after his election victory.

Karoline Leavitt, set to become the youngest White House press secretary in US history, recently shared details of her unconventional appointment by Donald Trump. At a Turning Point USA event at George Washington University on April 2, Leavitt recounted the moment Trump selected her as White House spokesperson for his second term.

"About one week after the election, the president and I spoke on the phone, discussing various matters," Leavitt stated. She described the announcement as remarkably simple: "He suddenly said, 'by the way, you know you're going to be the spokesperson, right?'" Leavitt recounted. "I replied, 'yes, okay,' and we continued our previous conversation. That's how I got the job. There was no formality or fanfare, just that, classic Trump style." Leavitt emphasized the absence of any formal process for her selection, noting, "There really wasn't any process. I just thought I hoped I would have a job. I didn't even know if I would be hired."

Born in Atkinson, New Hampshire in 1997, Leavitt will assume the role at 27 years old. Her journey to the White House began when she joined Trump's 2024 presidential campaign following an unsuccessful bid for the New Hampshire state legislature. She served as the campaign's spokesperson before transitioning to a White House communications role. When announcing Leavitt's appointment in November 2024, Trump lauded her as "smart, tough, and will perform excellently at the podium."

Leavitt is recognized for her strong loyalty to President Trump, consistently supporting him throughout his campaign across the United States. Her dedication was highlighted when she returned to work just four days after giving birth to her first son, following Trump's narrow escape from an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July 2024. Leavitt is currently pregnant with one baby girl, due in May.
