Chinese President Xi Jinping held a video call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 4/2, lasting about one hour and 25 minutes. This marked the first phone conversation between the two leaders this year, as both China and Russia are undertaking strategic adjustments amid global geopolitical tensions.
"China and Russia have an obligation to encourage the international community to uphold fairness and justice, firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core and the basic norms of international law, and jointly strive to maintain global strategic stability," Xi Jinping said, adding that the international situation "is becoming increasingly unstable."

The Chinese President told the Russian President that the two nations should maintain close high-level exchanges and strengthen cooperation across all sectors.
"As major powers, both sides should deepen strategic coordination and demonstrate a more proactive sense of responsibility to ensure China-Russia relations continue to develop steadily in the right direction," Xi Jinping said. "The two nations need to work together to formulate a grand plan to advance bilateral relations on the right track."
Russian media reported that President Putin told Xi Jinping that Russia-China relations are a stabilizing factor during times of "global instability." Putin also praised energy transactions with China, with Moscow being a leading energy supplier to Beijing.
"We are actively discussing peaceful nuclear energy and advancing high-tech projects, including those in industry and space exploration," the Russian President said.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoigu had previously met, pledging to maintain close contact and enhance mutual support on issues related to core interests.
Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov stated that President Putin accepted an invitation to visit China in the first half of this year.
