Brian Tyler Cohen, an influential independent political commentator and YouTuber in the US, published a podcast interview with former President Barack Obama on 14/2. The discussion covered various topics, including extraterrestrial life.
Cohen directly asked, "Are aliens real?"
"They are real, but I have never seen them," Obama replied calmly and firmly. The former US president offered no further explanation or evidence for his statement, though he asserted that aliens are not held at Area 51, contrary to long-standing rumors.

Social media users reacted immediately after the interview video aired. Brian Tyler Cohen, 37, whose YouTube channel boasts over 4 billion views, faced criticism for failing to press Obama further.
Jay Anderson, an X user, commented, "The former US president publicly stated to him that aliens are real, yet he didn't ask any follow-up questions. This is one of the most naive interviews of our time."
Gordon, another X user, congratulated Cohen on his exclusive interview with Obama but questioned, "Why did you not ask him to explain his answer about aliens more clearly? If a former president says aliens are real, we should ask why he believes this or if he has any evidence. Did you not follow up due to nervousness, thinking he was joking, or another reason?"
Calvin Robinson, an English priest, broadcaster, and radio host, commented, "This is a great lesson on why not everyone is suited to be a journalist. Just having a camera is not enough. When a former US president publicly states there are aliens, you need to ask pertinent questions and should not stick to the script."
Area 51 is a top-secret US Air Force base in Nevada. The facility has long been rumored by conspiracy theorists to be where the government conceals alien bodies and spacecraft.
Interest in potential contact between extraterrestrial life and Earth has surged in recent years, following government document revelations of several mysterious flying object sightings.
This was not Obama's first comment on the existence of extraterrestrial life. "Regarding aliens, there are some things I cannot reveal on television," the former US president stated in a 2021 interview.
He then confirmed that sightings of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) are real, adding that the US government could not explain the origin or unusual flight paths of those craft. "But it is true that there are videos and records of objects in the sky that we do not know exactly what they are. I am completely serious," Obama added.
