The Neue Klasse revolution has just begun, and BMW is already experiencing a positive challenge. Customers are purchasing the new electric iX3 so rapidly that it is almost sold out until late 2026, compelling the company to add production shifts at its factory.
This represents significant confidence in a vehicle that customers have not even test-driven. Since its launch in autumn 2025, the iX3 has accounted for about 33% of BMW's electric vehicle orders in Europe. Deliveries are set to commence only in march, yet most of the anticipated vehicles are already almost sold out, according to Auto News.
In 10/2025, the iX3 received over 3,000 orders in Germany alone, prior to the international test drive event where journalists published their initial impressions. Following the publication of these articles, order numbers significantly increased, partly due to customer events organized across Europe. These events offered potential buyers a closer look at the vehicle and allowed them to experience certain features, even without a test drive.

Spiegel reports that BMW had to add an extra work shift earlier than initially planned at its new Debrecen factory in Hungary. This is BMW's first plant dedicated solely to electric vehicles, boasting a capacity of 150,000 cars per year, and is currently in its ramp-up phase.
Also in Germany, about 33% of buyers have never owned a BMW before, making their purchase without a test drive even more remarkable.
The iX3 is the first model built on BMW's entirely new Neue Klasse platform, featuring a bold, modern Neue Klasse design. It will be followed by the Neue Klasse 3 series replacement later this year.
BMW is also enhancing the iX3's appeal with new equipment. Starting this spring, the compact SUV will offer an optional 22 kW AC charging upgrade, reducing charging times at home and work. It also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing users to power external devices with up to 3,7 kW, making camping trips more convenient.
Furthermore, new paint options are available, including metallic green and icy silver, along with interior trim refinements. New options like stainless steel rear sills, a bright white steering wheel, and an M-striped key are also being introduced.
However, the iX3 will face strong competition. The Mercedes GLC with EQ technology is also performing well. While it may not match BMW in charging speed or range, it represents a significant step for the brand and is a formidable competitor. Similar to the new CLA electric sedan, the GLC EQ no longer resembles a "gummy bear" and its design is closer to the manufacturer's conventional lineup.
