On 18/3, many oto were traveling at high speeds on the Trans-Java toll road. A dashcam-equipped vehicle was in the far-right lane, closely following another car.
The Toyota Avanza, traveling in the middle lane, suddenly swerved right, hitting a guardrail. A metal bar then pierced the vehicle from front to rear. Drivers of two following oto narrowly avoided a direct collision with the damaged vehicle. The Avanza driver is suspected of having fallen asleep at the wheel. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
In recent days, millions of Indonesians have been traveling across the country to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, also known as "mudik". This is an important Muslim festival marking the end of Ramadan.
A traffic safety expert and member of the policy and advocacy board for traffic safety at the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) stated that drivers must maintain speed control, especially when fatigued during long journeys.
The expert also highlighted the condition of toll road guardrails. He noted that the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) previously expressed concern about the sharp edges of these guardrails, suggesting it would be better if they were curved.
