During heavy rain and limited visibility amid heavy traffic, a motorcyclist changed lanes to the right after making a U-turn. Simultaneously, a black SUV was changing lanes from right to left. The SUV struck the motorcycle, knocking the rider onto the road directly in front of a car equipped with a dashcam. Fortunately, the driver with the dashcam reacted quickly, and the motorcyclist was able to stand up and continue on their way.
In adverse weather conditions with limited visibility, vehicles should reduce speed when changing lanes. Besides signaling, drivers must carefully observe and only change lanes when it is safe to do so.
When it rains, drivers should signal their intention to change lanes for a longer period – one and a half to two times longer than in dry conditions. This allows other drivers to understand each vehicle's intended path.
