The incident occurred on 16/3 in Tay Thanh. It was dark, and the road was busy. A white oto, originating from Nguyen Huu Tien street, was making a left turn into Tay Thanh. Simultaneously, several motorcyclists were proceeding against traffic towards the intersection. Despite the car's low speed, it struck a motorcycle at an oblique angle, causing the rider to fall. The extent of any injuries remains unknown.
Driving challenges on such roads are significant. On busy, dark roads with limited visibility, vehicles traveling in close proximity make observation challenging. Furthermore, due to the oblique angle created by the A-pillar, motorcycles can easily enter a driver's blind spot, making them susceptible to collisions even at low speeds.
For drivers, constant focus is crucial when navigating intersections. When changing direction, drivers should always maintain a wide field of observation, paying particular attention to potential blind spots. Moreover, drivers need to remain calm, control the accelerator and brake pedals precisely, and avoid collisions with vehicles traveling against traffic. Such incidents, even if the oncoming vehicle is at fault, can lead to undesirable legal conflicts, as the driver who actively strikes a motorcycle may still bear significant responsibility.
For motorcyclists, the act of traveling against traffic is punishable by a fine of 4-6 million VND, according to Decree 168/2024 on road traffic violations.
