Decree 168/2024 stipulates penalties for oto drivers who fail to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Such violations incur a fine of 2-6 million VND and a deduction of two points from their driver's license. If the violation causes an accident, the fine increases to 20-22 million VND, along with a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
For truck drivers, if illegal stopping or parking is the direct cause of an accident, they face a fine of 10-12 million VND.
Safe driving practices are essential, particularly when operating large vehicles. Drivers must maintain focus and observe surroundings to ensure a safe following distance. Container trucks, due to their substantial weight, require a much longer braking distance than passenger cars. Drivers must also avoid using their phones, falling asleep at the wheel, or any form of distraction.
If a vehicle is damaged or must stop on the roadside for any reason, it is crucial to display warning signals to alert other road users.
