A collision involving a dump truck and multiple other vehicles occurred on the morning of 14/3 on the Palin–Escuintla highway south of Guatemala City, resulting in 4 fatalities and at least 4 injuries, including an 11-month-old baby, according to N+.
Initial reports indicate that the dump truck lost control after its brakes failed and veered into the oncoming lane, colliding with 6 other vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. Among the vehicles involved were three cargo trucks, one motorcycle, and two cars.
Video footage from a dashcam mounted on one of the trucks showed the vehicle traveling at approximately 40 km/h. Following the impact, soil and dust nearly covered the road, with the motorcyclist trapped underneath the dump truck.
Rescue teams utilized specialized equipment to extricate victims trapped in the wreckage. Three individuals were confirmed dead at the scene, while the fourth victim was transported to a hospital and later succumbed to their injuries.
