Father arrested for letting 11-year-old son drive a car

An MG Cyberster electric convertible was seen driving on a highway, and passengers in a parallel car easily recorded a teenager at the wheel.

A driver in Hyderabad, India, noticed something unusual about an MG Cyberster convertible on a ring road. When their car overtook the MG, a passenger recorded video showing a man in the front seat, seemingly enjoying the ride, while a boy was behind the wheel.

The video was shared widely on social media on 11/6. The uploader confirmed the incident occurred on a ring road in Hyderabad, Telangana state, prompting many users to tag the Hyderabad Traffic Police Department and demand strict action against the MG Cyberster's owner.

Following the video's viral spread, police launched an investigation. They identified the electric convertible's owner as a construction business owner in Hyderabad and the father of the 11-year-old boy driving. Both were summoned to police headquarters, where the father was detained and the vehicle impounded.

In a statement released on their social media account on 18/6, police confirmed a case had been filed against the father. Charges include: allowing a minor to drive underage, dangerous driving, and failing to comply with traffic laws. Necessary legal actions are proceeding under India's road traffic laws and other applicable statutes.
