A VnExpress source indicates that Hyundai Thanh Cong plans to launch the Exter in 2026. The Exter is expected to replace the Venue, a compact CUV introduced in Vietnam in late 2023, becoming the Korean automaker's most accessible high-ground-clearance vehicle.
The Hyundai Exter first debuted in 2023, developed and primarily sold in India. According to Carscoops, while official information is pending, the Exter is believed to use the Hyundai-Kia K1 platform, found in smaller models like the i10 and Casper, targeting first-time car buyers. In India, Hyundai sells both the Exter and the Venue.
In terms of dimensions, the Exter is smaller than the Venue, currently Hyundai's smallest high-ground-clearance model available in Vietnam. The Exter measures 3,830 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width, and 1,643 mm in height, with a 2,450 mm wheelbase.
The Exter shares the same wheelbase as the Hyundai i10. However, it is slightly shorter, wider, and taller than the A-segment hatchback. The Exter boasts a ground clearance of 185 mm, significantly higher than the i10's 157 mm.

The Exter's exterior design shares many similarities with the Venue, presenting an overall masculine aesthetic. Its sporty character is evident in the front and rear bumpers. Wheel arch cladding and rugged styling elements contribute to an adventurous, off-road inspired look.
The Hyundai Exter's interior resembles that of the i10. Beyond the standard model, other trims feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a 4,2-inch digital instrument cluster. Seating options include fabric or synthetic leather upholstery. Standard equipment comprises: electronic stability control, hill start assist, and parking sensors. Higher-end variants add features such as: cruise control, automatic climate control, and tire pressure monitoring.
Regarding powertrains, the Exter offers two options: a 1,2-liter gasoline engine and a similar variant compatible with compressed natural gas (CNG). The pure 1,2-liter gasoline engine, identical to the one in the Hyundai i10 in Vietnam, delivers 83 horsepower and 114 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic.
The price for the Hyundai Exter in Vietnam has not yet been announced. In India, the vehicle starts from 6,160 USD. The Hyundai i10 currently sells in Vietnam for 360-455 million VND.
The Venue, which the Exter is likely to replace, is priced between 499-539 million VND. For several years, the Hyundai Venue has been the slowest-selling model in the A+-segment high-ground-clearance category. In 2025, Venue sales reached 2,289 units, trailing its gasoline-powered competitors: the Toyota Raize (3,630 units) and the Kia Sonet (5,944 units).
