Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother died in a car crash in the province of Zamora, Spain at 0:30 on 3/7. The accident occurred at kilometer 65 on the A-52 highway towards Benavente.
Jota's Lamborghini reportedly suffered a tire blowout while driving. Black tire marks on the road indicate the car swerved from the middle lane, crossed the outermost left lane, hit the median strip, and caught fire. The fire spread to surrounding vegetation. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and coordinated with emergency medical services and police, but could only confirm the deaths of the two occupants, according to El Confidencial.

In 2023, the A-52 highway recorded 19 accidents, making it the interprovincial road with the highest number of accidents in the region. Four years ago, a campaign was launched to address speeding and raise awareness of areas with frequent speeding or accidents.

With sharp bends and the frequent presence of wildlife, the A-52 is often considered one of the most challenging roads to navigate. Many drivers believe the A-52 is among the worst roads in Spain, citing the road's condition and lack of safety barriers, according to Dailymail.
The Zamora region is known for its rugged terrain, with the A-52 passing through mountainous and forested areas. The area also experiences frequent fog and limited visibility.
Despite the treacherous terrain, the A-52 remains a major route for drivers after leaving northern Portugal, heading towards the ports of Santander and Bilbao, or driving northeast towards France.
