Preview images showcase the familiar boxy design and upright windshield of the G-Class. The most significant changes are at the rear, where the retractable roof begins at the A-pillar. The absence of the third-quarter window evokes the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet.
Technical specifications have yet to be released. However, according to AutoCar, the new convertible SUV may offer diesel, gasoline, and electric powertrains similar to the standard G-Class.
These options could include the G 450d with a 362 hp turbocharged 3.0L I6 diesel engine, the G 500 with a 443 hp turbocharged 3.0L V6 gasoline engine, and the high-performance G 63 with a 577 hp twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8. The electric G 580 boasts four electric motors (one for each wheel), generating a combined 579 hp and powered by a 116 kWh battery pack.
