Mitsubishi Xpander gets a refresh for Vietnamese market

Mitsubishi's popular MPV receives design and technology upgrades, enhanced safety features, and a slight price increase.

On 22/9, Mitsubishi introduced the new Xpander and Xpander Cross to the Vietnamese market. Both models feature interior and exterior design tweaks, a larger infotainment screen, and added safety features. The price remains virtually unchanged, with just a 1 million VND increase.

Externally, the 2025 Xpander models sport a redesigned grille, front and rear bumpers for a more robust look. New 17-inch alloy wheels complement each model's style. The Xpander AT Premium boasts sharper LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and a continuous sporty trim around the vehicle.

Inside, both the Xpander and Xpander Cross upgrades feature a new three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated controls. Notably, a new 8-inch digital instrument cluster replaces the previous analog display with a 4.2-inch LCD screen. The infotainment system gets an upgrade to a 10-inch touchscreen from the previous 9-inch version, now supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2025 Xpander and Xpander Cross are equipped with 6 standard airbags. The Xpander AT Premium adds Active Yaw Control (AYC). Other safety features, including ABS/EBD/BA brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and hill-start assist, are carried over from the previous versions.

Both the Xpander and Xpander Cross retain the 1.5L MIVEC engine producing 104 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The 2025 Mitsubishi Xpander AT Premium is priced at 659 million VND, while the 2025 Xpander Cross is priced at 699 million VND, a modest 1 million VND increase from their predecessors.

In Vietnam, the Mitsubishi Xpander competes with rivals such as the Toyota Veloz (638-660 million VND), Honda BR-V (661-705 million VND), Kia Carens (589-779 million VND), Hyundai Stargazer (489-599 million VND), Suzuki XL7 (599 million VND), and Toyota Avanza (558-598 million VND).

In August, Xpander celebrated a milestone of 120,000 units sold in Vietnam, marking 8 years in the market and solidifying its position as the best-selling MPV in its segment. Despite the rising popularity of electric MPVs in Vietnam, gasoline-powered options like the Xpander remain a practical choice for customers who prefer not to deal with charging times and infrastructure, or simply enjoy the driving experience of a gasoline engine.
