Kyle Hamilton was riding his Harley-Davidson on a mountain road near Hulett, Wyoming, with a friend following close behind. The friend's helmet camera captured the moment a small deer dashed across the road directly in front of Hamilton.
Hamilton stated he was leading the group at approximately 55 mph. "It was a 65-70 mph straight stretch, but I was going about 55 mph, waiting for the guys behind me to get out of the corner and catch up," he said.
At that moment, the deer leaped over an embankment and into the road, narrowly missing an oncoming car in the opposite lane before running directly into Hamilton's path. He recounted having no time to react.
"I just kind of braced for impact and thought, 'Well, this is going to be bad'," Hamilton said.
He felt fortunate that it was a small doe, not a large buck. Remarkably, Hamilton stayed on his 2023 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, and the bike remained upright.
He also felt lucky he didn't hit the deer head-on, as it likely would have launched the animal into him. Immediately after the collision, Hamilton and his friend pulled the deer's carcass off the road. The front end of his motorcycle sustained significant damage, requiring repairs or replacement.
It appears Hamilton wasn't wearing a helmet at the time, and if he had fallen off the bike, the consequences could have been severe.
