Nearly 1,000 people trade gas for electric in two days

VinFast sells nearly 1,000 electric scooters through its gas-for-electric exchange program, attracting thousands of visitors over the weekend.

VinFast sold nearly 1,000 electric scooters during its "Trade Gas for Electric – Building a Green Future with VinFast" event held on 21/6 and 22/6 at Thanh Xuan Park in Hanoi's Thanh Xuan district. Nearly 600 of these sales involved customers trading in their gas-powered scooters from other brands. The event allowed Hanoi residents to trade in their old scooters for credit, gifts, and vouchers towards the purchase of a new VinFast electric scooter.

According to VinFast, customers can continue to trade in their old scooters at select VinFast dealerships after the event, although not all locations are participating in the program.

Nguyen Tien Cong, 48, from Nam Tu Liem district, brought his son to the event to trade in his son's rarely used 2021 gas-powered scooter for a new electric model. Cong explained that his son was hesitant to use the old scooter due to the cost of gas, maintenance, and repairs, while most of his friends use electric scooters daily.

"Young people today prefer electric scooters because they often travel short distances within the city. The scooters also come in various fashionable designs and colors, and charging at home is more convenient," Cong said. "VinFast bought back my old Air Blade, and I exchanged it for a Feliz Neo. With the additional voucher and gifts at the event, I didn't have to spend much more." He added that the trade-in process was quick, taking only about 30 minutes to complete the paperwork and receive the new scooter.

Similarly, Hoang Thu Mai, 30, from Dong Da district, traded in her old gas-powered scooter for an Evo200 to use for her daily commute. "I'm not familiar with the procedures or the resale value of old scooters, so having the company handle everything on-site is very convenient for women who want to switch to electric," Mai said. She explained her decision to switch, stating, "Electric scooters are compact, easy to maneuver, and don't require the complicated maintenance and repairs of gas-powered scooters." She also noted that the Evo200's small size and ease of handling make it well-suited for navigating crowded city streets, and the ability to charge at home adds to its convenience.

At the event, VinFast stated that dealerships are offering top prices for trade-ins, with an additional 1 to 2 million VND in support depending on the model, along with gifts and raffle opportunities. The company showcased its entire range of electric scooters, including the Motio, Evo200, Klara, Feliz, Vento, and Theon, each designed for different user groups, from students and women to men, with a variety of prices and versions.

In addition to individual users, the event also attracted ride-hailing drivers who frequently use two-wheeled vehicles in the city due to the nature of their work. Delivery driver Duc Toan, 45, from Thanh Tri district, came to the event to explore VinFast's new electric scooter models. He explained that his job requires constant travel within the city, but also involves periods of waiting while delivering to customers.

"Whenever I'm collecting deliveries at apartment buildings or offices, I can charge the battery at any electrical outlet. In a little over an hour, the scooter is ready to go again. Finding an outlet in the city is quite easy, so most of my colleagues have switched to electric scooters to save money," Toan shared, adding that he was advised by GSM to join the Xanh SM Platform, which offers a revenue-sharing rate of up to 90% in the first year and 85% for the following two years. This is the highest revenue-sharing rate in the Vietnamese ride-hailing market.

At a similar event in Ho Chi Minh City on 14/6 and 15/6, VinFast recorded over 10,000 visitors over two days, delivering 570 electric scooters and receiving 249 gas-powered scooter trade-ins.

VinFast currently offers a 4% discount on all its cars and electric scooters through its nationwide loyalty program. For electric scooters, in addition to this discount, the company has adjusted prices to be 15% to 20% lower than before, depending on the model and version, to encourage users to switch from gas to electric.
