New generation Subaru Forester: engaging performance meets conservative design

The latest Subaru Forester, a Japanese-imported SUV, impresses with its robust chassis, excellent sound insulation, and smooth suspension, offering an engaging drive despite a less striking design.

The new generation Subaru Forester recently underwent testing by Car Awards judges in 11/2025, receiving a mixed but generally positive evaluation. While praised for its dynamic performance and structural integrity, its design drew criticism for being overly conservative.

Judges highlighted several key strengths, particularly its driving experience. The Forester features a powerful boxer engine and offers an engaging drive, largely attributed to its low center of gravity. Furthermore, the vehicle boasts a reinforced chassis, which is notably stiffer than its predecessor, contributing to improved stability and handling.

Comfort levels also received commendation, with the Forester's smooth suspension system providing a refined ride. Excellent sound insulation further enhances the cabin experience, ensuring a quiet and pleasant journey for occupants.

Despite its strong performance, the Forester's design aesthetic proved to be its main drawback. The exterior was deemed conservative, lacking the modern flair and novelty that appeals to a broader demographic. This sentiment extended to the interior, which judges found to be less contemporary than competitors.

Another point of contention was the dashboard display, which presents numerous parameters that many users found confusing and cluttered. Additionally, the Forester's price point was noted as high, primarily due to its status as a Japanese import.
