On a highway with a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h, a pedestrian suddenly appeared, attempting to cross the road in the dark. A driver, whose vehicle was equipped with a dashcam, was traveling at about 80 km/h and was unable to react in time, striking the man. The extent of injuries following the collision is currently unknown.
Pedestrians on highways pose a significant danger, as these roads are designed for high-speed vehicle traffic. Crossing a highway carries a high risk of fatal accidents due to collisions with fast-moving vehicles. This risk is amplified in dark conditions where visibility is limited, making it extremely difficult for drivers to react to unexpected situations.
Pedestrians are prohibited from entering highways, with the exception of personnel on duty for highway management and maintenance. Walking on a highway is a violation of the law, subject to a fine of 400,000-600,000 VND, as stipulated by Decree 168/2024.
