Suzuki Jimny releases final edition

Suzuki Jimny celebrates its 55th anniversary with a special edition before discontinuation in Europe due to emission standards.

The Suzuki Jimny, a popular off-road vehicle, is exiting the European market due to increasingly stringent emission standards. Sales in Germany and the EU will gradually cease from mid-2024, with the vehicle only available as a two-seater commercial model. However, before its official departure, Suzuki has launched a special edition in France.

Commemorating 55 years since the debut of the LJ10, Suzuki's first four-wheel-drive vehicle, Suzuki is introducing a limited edition of only 55 units in France: the Jimny 55th Anniversary edition. This release pays tribute to the iconic off-roader, which has sold over 3 million units globally over the past 55 years.

The Jimny is currently only sold in Europe as a two-seater commercial vehicle.

Distinguishing features of the special edition include a customized grille with Suzuki lettering, classic side decals, red mud flaps, and a spare tire cover with a rhino emblem. The vehicle also sports black steel wheels and is available in four exterior colors: white, green, black, and gray.

Rubber floor mats are provided in the passenger compartment and trunk, along with a commemorative plaque on the center console. Suzuki France is also including a special key ring and an embossed leather travel journal for owners to document their experiences with the vehicle.

The limited edition comes equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, lane departure warning, automatic headlights, and traffic sign recognition. However, it lacks the 9-inch infotainment screen and LED lights found in higher trim levels.

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine producing 101 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission and Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system. The vehicle has a curb weight of 1,090 kg.

The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary edition is limited to 55 units for the French market, priced at 28,955 euros (33,200 USD). The first deliveries are expected to begin at the end of June.

Similar special editions of the Jimny have been released in other markets, including the Mata edition in Italy, the Horizon edition in Germany, the Heritage edition in Australia, the Rhino edition in Malaysia, and the 4Style edition in Brazil.

Suzuki remains silent on when, where, or if the model will be replaced or upgraded. Meanwhile, the India-produced 5-door model has proven popular in Japan, and a pickup truck version is also reportedly under consideration.

Initially, the small off-roader was expected to feature hybrid or mild-hybrid technology, allowing it to return to the European passenger car market. Suzuki had confirmed a fully electric version would arrive in Europe in 2024 or 2025.

However, plans changed abruptly last year when Chairman Toshihiro Suzuki stated that the Jimny would not receive any electrification and would remain a combustion engine model, with alternative fuels planned for the future.
