Traveling at the maximum allowed speed of 100 km/h, a truck laden with veneer planks struck the underside of an overpass. The cargo, stacked too high, was dislodged and scattered across the Thai Nguyen - Hanoi expressway. Vehicles following behind were forced to brake suddenly to avoid collision. Fortunately, no chain reactions occurred. Drivers had to clear the debris themselves to continue their journeys.
Vehicles are prohibited from carrying oversized or overloaded cargo, as this poses significant safety risks. Protruding loads can damage infrastructure, while spilled goods cause traffic congestion and obstruct other vehicles. In addition to monetary fines, offenders may be required to clear any fallen materials to prevent further hazards.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates fines of two to three million VND for trucks carrying cargo exceeding the permissible height limit. Furthermore, transporting unsecured cargo or cargo not secured according to regulations incurs a fine of 18 to 22 million VND.
Drivers following trucks carrying bulky or potentially oversized loads should maintain a greater safe distance than usual. This allows sufficient time to brake and signal to vehicles behind, alerting them to potential dangers.
