Electronic technology in urban scooters

The Yamaha Nmax 155 features the YECVT electronic continuously variable transmission and two riding modes, allowing users to customize engine response according to their needs.

Scooters are popular with most users for their convenience and ease of control, making them suitable for navigating congested city traffic. However, due to short travel distances, most scooter models on the market offer limited exciting riding experiences or emphasize riding feel.

In this context, Yamaha is one of the leading manufacturers integrating electronic technology into urban scooters, aiming to deliver a more engaging riding experience for riders. For example, on the Nmax 155 model, the continuously variable transmission does not entirely follow traditional mechanisms; instead, it is managed by the YECVT electronic control system, which allows for smoother engine response, especially during sudden acceleration.

Instead of maintaining fixed operational characteristics, this model has two riding modes, S-mode and T-mode, which riders can customize as needed, from smooth, economical travel to situations requiring strong traction for overtaking or climbing hills. For safety, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) on the front and rear wheels reduces the risk of wheel lock-up during sudden braking. Complementing this is the traction control system (TCS), which automatically adjusts the suitable power output, helping riders easily control the vehicle and avoid instability.

The 155 cc gasoline engine incorporates variable valve actuation (VVA) to maintain stable torque across various RPM ranges. The Y-Connect connectivity system allows users to connect the scooter to their smartphone, displaying basic information such as operational status, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules. A smartkey system provides convenient vehicle management.

In the Tech Max version, the Nmax 155 features a color TFT screen with integrated Garmin StreetCross navigation. Through smartphone connectivity, this system displays turn-by-turn directions directly on the screen, allowing riders to visually follow their route. Design-wise, the Nmax 155 embodies the distinctive robust style of a maxi-scooter. It features a unibody design prioritizing aerodynamics and a two-tier seat to improve riding posture. The seat height is 770 mm, complemented by a spacious footrest.

Thanks to a series of innovations and integrated electronic technology, the Nmax 155 is one of Yamaha's leading scooter models, promising an exciting and safe riding experience, especially on longer journeys.
