The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on 24/6 in Sandu County as a tractor-trailer was crossing the bridge. The driver braked, but the cab plunged off the roadway and was left hanging. The driver was trapped but uninjured.

A man filming the scene can be heard shouting, "You're lucky to be alive! Don't move forward, wait for the firefighters!" Minutes later, further cracking appeared in the road, prompting onlookers to quickly retreat to safety.

Rescue crews arrived and successfully extracted the driver through the cab window using ropes and a safety ladder.

Drone footage revealed three construction vehicles beneath the collapsed section of the bridge. These vehicles belonged to a nearby village and were unoccupied at the time of the incident.

According to the Guizhou Meteorological Bureau, widespread heavy rain had fallen across southern and southeastern parts of the province throughout the day on 23/6 and into the morning of 24/6.
