Two students, without helmets, were riding a motorbike at high speed, continuously weaving and swerving on the road. As they exited an intersection, while a 45-seater bus was turning right, the two boys cut in front of the bus, overtaking it from the right, then changing lanes to go straight. The bus had to brake sharply to prevent an accident.
Students new to motorbikes and high speeds are often captivated by the novelty, believing they can control the vehicle. However, driving fast with constant weight shifts, leaning, and small tires with minimal contact area significantly increases the risk of slipping and falling. For instance, in this incident of cutting off a vehicle, if the oto had not braked in time or if there had been a stone on the road, the two students could have suffered a severe fall. Such 'dicing with death' situations can lead to dire consequences for both the students and their families.
Vietnamese law mandates that motorbike riders must wear helmets and prohibits speeding, reckless overtaking, and swerving. This particularly serious behavior, under Decree 168/2024, carries a fine of 8-10 million VND. If such actions result in an accident, the fine increases to 10-12 million VND, along with a driving license suspension of 3-5 months and vehicle confiscation. Furthermore, not wearing a helmet incurs an additional fine of 400,000-600,000 VND.
