Vietnam's car market surges in the first half of 2025

Vietnam's car sales saw a 42% year-on-year increase in the first six months of 2025.

New car launches and various discounts in June stimulated consumer demand during the final month of Quarter II, boosting sales for most brands in the Vietnamese auto market.

In June, members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), importers, Hyundai, and VinFast sold a total of 47,556 vehicles, a slight 6% increase compared to May. Hyundai and VinFast's sales remained relatively stagnant. The primary driver of the industry's growth in June was VAMA members, whose sales increased by almost 9.5%.

Compared to the first half of 2024, consumer purchasing power significantly increased in the first half of 2025. The industry sold a total of 254,293 vehicles, a 42% increase. VAMA and importers accounted for 163,023 vehicles, Hyundai 24,204, and VinFast 67,066.

Most brands reported positive sales figures, except for two Korean brands: Hyundai (down 1%), Kia (down 12%), and the Japanese brand Suzuki (down 56%). VinFast experienced the highest sales growth, with sales in the first half of 2025 tripling compared to the same period in 2024 (approximately 20,000 vehicles).

In recent months, models like the VF 3, VF 5, and VF 6 have consistently topped sales charts in their respective segments and across the entire market, securing VinFast the largest market share. Meanwhile, in the gasoline car segment, the Mitsubishi Xpander is the top-selling model.

Industry experts predict increased activity in the Vietnamese car market for the remainder of 2025. Following an initial introduction period, new models launched in the past six months are reaching a wider customer base, driving market growth.

The Vietnam Motor Show (VMS), typically held in October, will not take place in 2025. Several car manufacturers have stated that their marketing and communications budgets will be allocated to other events, along with promotions and discounts to boost sales at dealerships.
