The elegant S90, offered solely in the B5 trim in India, featured a mild-hybrid 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 250 horsepower. It boasted a 360-degree camera, 4-zone automatic climate control, massaging and ventilated front seats, air suspension, and a 19-speaker B&W sound system. Despite its advanced features, the S90 struggled to compete with rivals like the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5 Series.
The India-manufactured S90, priced at 78,800 USD, received its last update in 10/2021. Since then, no new versions have been introduced, leaving it behind competitors like the E-class and 5 Series, which have undergone significant updates and offer more powertrain options. Consequently, the S90's sales declined, leading to the decision to halt production.
Volvo India's current strategy centers on SUVs, particularly electric models. The company plans to launch the compact electric crossover EX30 later this year, potentially assembling it in India. The larger EX90 electric SUV is slated for a 2026 release. This shift demonstrates Volvo's commitment to expanding its SUV and electric vehicle presence in India.
In Vietnam, the Volvo S90 is officially distributed in two versions: the Ultra priced at 2,269 billion Vietnamese dong and the Plug-in hybrid Ultra at 2,75 billion Vietnamese dong.
