A report from the White House on 19/8 asserted that "President Trump's trade agenda is revitalizing the US automotive industry", citing Ford's decision to halt imports of its Nautilus vehicle line manufactured in China, instead shifting to assemble the Lincoln brand in the US starting in 2030.
The White House's list of automakers increasing production in the US to avoid costly tariffs included: General Motors, Stellantis, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, Volvo, Nissan, and Hyundai.
However, an error emerged when the White House included Rolls-Royce in this list. The report stated: "Rolls-Royce is investing 75 million USD to increase engine production at its Aiken facility, South Carolina, and recently completed a 24 million USD expansion for its Mankato plant, Minnesota".

While the investment figures are accurate, these projects are entirely unrelated to the automotive manufacturing industry. The entity responsible is Rolls-Royce PLC, a group specializing in civil aerospace, defense, and power systems. This company completely separated from car manufacturing in the 1970s.
Rolls-Royce PLC's closest product to a "car" is actually the commercial Airbus or Boeing aircraft moving on runways, rather than the ultra-luxury sedans mentioned by the US administration.
Meanwhile, the White House declared: "President Trump's 'America First' policy is decisively winning against a decades-long trend of offshoring production. Companies that once pursued cheap labor are now investing in US factories, bringing cars made by American workers to American consumers".
This is not the first time the agency has made such an error. In January, the White House previously listed Rolls-Royce PLC's investments in the "Make Driving Great Again" campaign.
In fact, confusion between the luxury car brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and the industrial group Rolls-Royce PLC still persists. The car brand, now part of the German BMW Group, once had to issue a statement affirming that the two entities are entirely independent legal entities.
