On 16/6 in Phu My Hung, a woman riding a motorcycle equipped with a dashcam was crossing an intersection with a green traffic light. Suddenly, a van approached rapidly from a perpendicular direction on the right. Despite attempting to brake, the van struck the motorcyclist. The impact threw the victim high into the air, over the van, before she fell to the road. The extent of her injuries is currently unknown.
This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving. Speeding through intersections is a hazardous act, and drivers should always reduce their speed before entering a junction to allow for timely reactions, even on empty roads. In this case, the van driver not only failed to yield but also ran a red light, causing the collision. Under Decree 168/2024, such violations carry a fine of 20-22 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
For motorcyclists, even when proceeding on a green light, it is advisable to observe traffic from both sides. This vigilance allows for proactive braking if other vehicles disregard traffic signals and run a red light.
A similar accident occurred on 12/6 in Au Co, Hac Thanh, Thanh Hoa, at an uncontrolled intersection, where a car speeding through also collided with a motorcycle.
