In a narrow and busy section of road 10, a dashcam driver was forced to brake to a halt when an oncoming car swerved completely into their lane. The encroaching car was attempting to overtake a series of large trucks, heading directly towards the dashcam vehicle. With the right lane heavily occupied by motorcycles, the dashcam driver decided not to yield, despite the encroaching car flashing its lights. This decision left the encroaching car in a dangerous position, squeezed close to the trucks while facing the stationary oncoming traffic. The encroaching car subsequently collided with one of the trucks on its passenger side.
Car Awards experts affirm the dashcam driver's decision was correct for safety in a head-on confrontation. When an oncoming vehicle rushes towards them, drivers should immediately apply light brakes, reduce speed, and stop completely if necessary. Stopping the vehicle minimizes damage if a collision occurs and provides the opposing vehicle more time and space to correct its error.
Many drivers instinctively swerve right to avoid a collision. However, on a crowded road with motorcycles on the right, swerving right risks hitting or forcing motorcycles off the road. This action could potentially make the initial victim responsible for a third-party accident.
