Located in Charlton, the new four-story facility is equipped with hundreds of robots, each capable of lifting up to 680 kg. These robots support over 1,000 employees in processing tens of thousands of orders daily, including books, electronics, toys, and household items. According to a June 3rd press release, the center currently holds about 32 million items.

The over 300 million USD project broke ground in 3/2022 and began operations in 11/2024. This marks Amazon's largest single investment in Massachusetts to date. Since 2010, Amazon has invested a total of 23 billion USD in the state, establishing a network that includes eight fulfillment and sortation centers, 17 delivery stations, and a Prime Now hub.
Integrating robotics into its supply chain is a key strategy for Amazon to automate processes, reduce manual labor, and boost productivity. This year, Amazon has introduced several new robot models for deployment across its US logistics network.
Amazon's robotic systems vary in size and function. For example, the Tipper robot moves packages from carts to conveyor belts. Recently, the company also unveiled the Vulcan robotic arm, equipped with tactile sensors for more agile item handling.
Last month, Amazon broke ground on another robotic facility in Virginia, its fourth in the state. Another robotic center is also under construction in North Carolina, slated to open in 2026.
