According to statistics from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), nearly all lobster export revenue to the populous market came from green lobster, reaching approximately 504 million USD and accounting for over 99,5% of the total. Other lobster varieties contributed about 2,4 million USD, despite a 345% increase compared to the same period.
China's import demand surged from the beginning of the year. February recorded the highest value, approximately 154 million USD, representing an increase of over 150% compared to February 2025. Subsequent months maintained levels between 78 and 87 million USD. May alone reached 78,4 million USD, up over 21%, indicating sustained purchasing power even after the peak season.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) states that China remains a significant lobster consumer market due to its stable demand for live seafood, particularly in the high-end segment catering to restaurants, banquets, and gifting.
Vietnamese lobster also holds several competitive advantages in this market. Its geographical proximity helps shorten transportation times and maintain the quality of live products. Businesses can flexibly supply via both road and air. Moreover, small and medium-sized green lobsters offer competitive prices, aligning with Chinese consumer preferences.

Beyond internal advantages, shifts in the global supply chain also present opportunities for Vietnamese businesses. In 2025, traditional suppliers like Canada, the US, and Australia experienced impacts from tariffs, trade disruptions, or slow production recovery. This created an opening for Vietnamese lobster to expand its market share. Consequently, Vietnam has emerged as one of China's important lobster suppliers, establishing a foundation for this year's growth momentum.
Experts forecast that if consumer demand in China remains stable and businesses maintain a quality supply, Vietnam's lobster exports will have further room for growth in the second half of the year. However, the industry must closely monitor changes in China's import policies, quarantine regulations, and quality standards to sustain its competitive edge and ensure sustainable development.
