This facility is designed to shorten transit times and enhance reliability for pharmaceutical and medical product transport across the East Coast. Strategically located near major highways, the center features temperature-controlled areas for sensitive medications, a solar power system, and electric vehicle charging stations.
When it becomes operational later this year, the site will also function as a Foreign Trade Zone, which will streamline customs procedures and reduce tariff-related delays for incoming and outgoing shipments.

To handle more medical shipments and facilitate faster deliveries, DHL has built a facility spanning approximately 93,000 square meters in Annville, Pennsylvania. *Photo: DHL* |
"As pharmaceutical companies face evolving tariffs, increasing demand for cold chain infrastructure, and stricter compliance requirements, they need logistics partners with proven capabilities," stated Mark Kunar, CEO of DHL Supply Chain North America. He described the Annville center as a "significant step" in DHL's broader strategy to support the healthcare industry.
This project aligns with DHL's ongoing plan to expand its life sciences and healthcare segment. Previously, the group acquired SDS Rx, a US medical delivery company with over 200 operating locations, specializing in last-mile delivery services.
Following the acquisition, Kunar emphasized that last-mile delivery is a critical link in the medical logistics ecosystem. This integration enables DHL to expand its service offerings to specialty pharmacies, long-term care facilities, and hospital systems.
The combination of the new Pennsylvania center and the expanded delivery network is significantly boosting DHL's position in the US medical logistics sector. This strategic growth addresses the continuing rise in demand for the transportation of specialty medicines, biologics, and tightly controlled medical goods.
