The MIT Sloan Southeast Asia Office and the Dinh Thien Ly Community Support Foundation have launched the MIT $50K Vietnam startup competition, seeking innovative projects led by graduate students in Vietnam. The competition focuses on technological ideas with commercial viability and the potential to create positive social impact.
Inspired by the MIT $100K competition, which Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students initiated in 1989, this program marks the first time a similar model is being implemented in Asia. This initiative aims to foster a dynamic environment for emerging entrepreneurs.
The competition will unfold in two stages. The application phase is scheduled to begin in october 2026, leading to the selection of 5 teams for the final round in december of the same year. The grand finale is set for march 2027, where finalists will present their business models live to determine the winning team.

Participating projects will be evaluated based on three key criteria: the degree of technological innovation, commercial potential, and the ability to generate positive social impact within the community.
Through this initiative, the MIT Sloan Southeast Asia Office and the Dinh Thien Ly Community Support Foundation aim to promote the sustainable development of Vietnam's startup ecosystem. By expanding MIT's presence in Vietnam and the Southeast Asia region, the organizations commit to close collaboration between academic foundations and practical application. This approach reflects MIT's long-standing philosophy of "learning by doing", simultaneously nurturing innovative initiatives capable of making a tangible difference in society.
