Foton: 'Vietnam is a key market in ASEAN'

Foton Motor Group, a Chinese automotive giant, has chosen Vietnam as a strategic hub to test new technology solutions, services, and products before expanding them across other nations in the region.

Tran Chi Vi, general director of Foton China in Vietnam, emphasized this point at the Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition (Vilog 2026), held in Ho Chi Minh City from 30/7 to 1/8. He explained that Vietnam is not only a high-potential market for commercial vehicles but also plays a crucial role in Foton's development strategy in Southeast Asia.

"Vietnam serves as our proving ground, where we validate and refine our model of 'products coupled with customized services for each customer segment'. The experiences and models developed here will form the basis for Foton's expansion into other markets, such as Indonesia and Thailand," stated Tran Chi Vi. To realize this strategy, the company is intensifying its cooperation with Automotive Distribution and Commercial Vehicle Joint Stock Company (ADCV).

During Vilog 2026, Foton unveiled the new-generation Galaxus R5 tractor and showcased a product range comprising 16 commercial vehicles, from light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks to tractors. The company also introduced the eView Connect electric van for the first time. According to the announcement, the Galaxus R5 targets cargo transport customers seeking optimal traction and fuel cost efficiency, while the eView Connect is a product aligning with the company's new energy vehicle development strategy.

From ADCV's perspective, Sales Director Nguyen Thach Cuong stated that Foton will continue to expand its product portfolio to meet the increasingly diverse demands of the transport market. "We will cooperate closely with Foton to soon introduce new energy and high-tech applications, such as electric vehicles, to Vietnam," Cuong emphasized.

According to Tran Chi Vi, Foton has been actively fostering international partnerships for many years to develop its commercial vehicle ecosystem. The company has collaborated with technology partners Cummins and ZF to research new technologies and products, and to expand its global supply chain. In Southeast Asia, the enterprise is strengthening collaborations with local entities, systematically standardizing and refining its product, production, distribution, and service chains. Having entered the Vietnamese market in 2004, Foton has worked closely with partners, leveraging international resources and local experience to introduce transport solutions tailored to customer needs.

Established in China, Baic Foton boasts a diverse and extensive product portfolio. Over 21 years, the company has supplied more than 1,300 hydrogen fuel cell buses for the 2022 Winter Olympics and other international events, including APEC, G20, the World Expo, and the Olympics. In 5/2025, the enterprise released an ESG report, reinforcing its green technology development strategy.
