Gia Lai to get ethanol plant worth over VND 1,700 billion

The An Khe Ethanol Plant, with an investment exceeding VND 1,741 billion and a daily capacity of 200,000 liters of ethanol, is slated to break ground in Q1/2027 and begin operations approximately 18 months later.

On 6/10, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee announced its approval of the investment policy and designated Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company as the investor for the An Khe Ethanol Plant project.

The plant will be constructed in An Khe Ward on an area of approximately 80,130 square meters, with an operational lifespan of 50 years. Total investment exceeds VND 1,741 billion, comprising VND 558 billion in equity and VND 1,183 billion in borrowed capital.

The project will produce fuel ethanol, food-grade alcohol, electricity, liquid CO2, dried yeast, and fusel oil. Its designed capacity includes: 200,000 liters of ethanol per day; 21 million liters of alcohol annually; 90 tons of liquid CO2, 11,2 tons of dried yeast, and 0,5 tons of fusel oil daily. The power plant will have a capacity of 7 MW.

According to the approved schedule, the company will complete investment procedures in Q4/2026, break ground in Q1/2027, and finish construction, bringing the plant into operation in Q3/2028.

The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requires the investor to develop an environmental incident response plan, particularly for issues related to the exhaust gas treatment system. Should plant operations cause pollution or environmental incidents affecting residents' lives, the investor must cease operations and provide compensation as regulated.

During implementation, Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company must coordinate with the An Khe and An Binh ward authorities for community consultation. The company is also required to support local infrastructure improvement, social welfare, and prioritize local labor.

Departments, sectors, and the An Khe Ward People's Committee are tasked with guiding, inspecting, and supervising the project's implementation. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is responsible for environmental protection procedures.

The decision states that if the investor fails to implement or cannot execute the project according to the registered schedule within 12 months from the date of investment policy approval, without valid reason, the investment policy for the project will be revoked.
