The Ho Chi Minh City Lottery Company achieved a record pre-tax profit of 1,184 billion VND in the first half of the year, its highest ever for this period. This surge comes as the company's semi-annual financial report revealed revenue exceeding 8,000 billion VND, an increase of nearly 1,000 billion VND compared to the same period last year.
Lottery sales were the primary driver, contributing over 97% of the total revenue. The remaining portion was generated from printing services and office rentals. After deducting operational expenses, the company's pre-tax profit of 1,184 billion VND represents a 22% increase from the first half of last year. This figure significantly surpasses, by two to three times, the profits of many other lottery companies operating in Vietnam's southern region.
Earlier this year, the company's leadership outlined ambitious annual financial targets: a revenue of approximately 17,320 billion VND and a pre-tax profit of 2,005 billion VND. Traditional lottery sales are projected to account for 16,070 billion VND, indicating a nearly 99% consumption rate, while scratch-off tickets are expected to bring in 780 billion VND. By mid-year, the Ho Chi Minh City Lottery Company had already achieved nearly 60% of its annual profit target.
Looking towards 2030, the company's five-year business strategy targets total revenue exceeding 88,750 billion VND and a pre-tax profit nearing 11,110 billion VND. This long-term plan anticipates an average annual growth rate of approximately 3%.
To sustain growth, the leadership affirmed that traditional lottery remains their core business and will continue to be developed. Simultaneously, the company plans to introduce new games to enhance the appeal of instant scratch-off tickets. Furthermore, they are exploring options for establishing and operating a self-selection lotto, diversifying their product offerings.
The Ho Chi Minh City Lottery Company is a 100% state-owned enterprise, operating directly under the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (UBND TP HCM). After allocating funds for employee bonuses and welfare, all residual profits are remitted to the state budget. As of mid-year, the company reported total assets exceeding 3,200 billion VND. Its liabilities amounted to over 1,300 billion VND, predominantly comprising taxes and other contributions to the state budget.
