JCB launches Apple Pay for cardholders in Vietnam

JCB cardholders can use Apple Pay for contactless payments at most businesses, including supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and taxis, starting 1/7.

The new feature is being rolled out at three partner banks: Vietcombank, MBBank, and VPBank, a representative stated. Apple Pay offers a secure, simple, and private way to pay in stores, in apps, and online.

To pay in stores, users simply double-click the side button, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode, and then hold their device near the card reader for contactless payment. All Apple Pay transactions are encrypted with a one-time dynamic security code, protecting user information and ensuring secure payments.

Apple Pay is accepted at a variety of locations, including supermarkets, pharmacies, taxis, restaurants, cafes, retail stores, and other places that support contactless payments.

JCB cardholders can also use Apple Pay for quick in-app or online purchases using their iPhone, iPad, or Mac. This eliminates the need to re-enter card information, shipping addresses, and login details for each transaction, enhancing the user experience.

Security and privacy are core to Apple Pay. When users add credit or debit cards to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on Apple devices.

To set up Apple Pay with a JCB card, users can open the Apple Wallet app, tap the plus (+) icon, and follow the instructions to add their card. They can also add the card through their bank's app such as VCB Digibank, MBBank, or VPBank Neo. Once set up, cardholders can use Apple Pay on various Apple devices, including Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, while still receiving all JCB card benefits, including discounts of up to 30% at over 100 restaurants nationwide.

The launch of Apple Pay for cardholders in Vietnam is a step forward in JCB's commitment to promoting cashless payments, a JCB representative said. With Apple Pay, JCB cardholders can enjoy a seamless, secure, and fast payment experience, increasing convenience in their daily digital transactions.

JCB is a major international payment brand and a leading card issuer and acquirer in Japan. It has a network of approximately 53 million acceptance locations globally and over 164 million cardmembers. In Vietnam, JCB is implementing an expansion strategy by partnering with leading banks and financial institutions to enhance its card acceptance network and cardmember base.
