Kuka Vietnam partners to establish robot and artificial intelligence technology center

Kuka Vietnam collaborates with Da Nang University of Technology – The University of Da Nang to build a robot and artificial intelligence center, aiming to train technical personnel and support manufacturing development in Central Vietnam.

The cooperation announcement ceremony took place in Da Nang on 6/3. The center is being built on a flexible, smart manufacturing model, intended to become a platform for training and applied research in industrial robots and artificial intelligence within an educational environment.

A company representative stated that this project allows Kuka Vietnam Company Limited to expand its presence in Central Vietnam. The establishment of the center aligns with the company's 2026-2030 development strategy, aiming to increase the adoption of robot and artificial intelligence technologies in technical training institutions. This initiative also seeks to build a skilled technical workforce for key industries in Vietnam, including automotive manufacturing, electronics, food and beverage, and other industrial sectors.

Expanding its presence in Central Vietnam reflects the company's long-term development strategy in the Vietnamese market. This region is attracting numerous manufacturing and high-tech projects due to the growth of industrial parks. However, specialized training infrastructure for robots and artificial intelligence in the area remains limited. Through its cooperation with Da Nang University of Technology – The University of Da Nang, the company directly participates in training and developing technical human resources for the region.

The center features several new-generation industrial robots from Kuka, including small and large payload robots, specialized welding robots, and the AMR KMP 400i autonomous mobile robot. These devices are utilized in various electronics, automotive, and manufacturing production lines in Vietnam and in many developed industrial nations.

The center's layout follows a modular production line structure, simulating a flexible and smart manufacturing model of future factories. According to Kuka Vietnam, this is one of the first training models in Vietnam to integrate industrial robot stations and autonomous mobile robot systems within the same operational process. This setup allows for the simulation of smart manufacturing with synchronized coordination between fixed and mobile robots.

The system also integrates an artificial intelligence (AI) powered operational monitoring platform. This platform helps track, analyze, and optimize operational performance, reflecting the global and Vietnamese trend towards smart factories. Through this cooperation, the company and the university aim to train a workforce capable of programming and operating industrial robots, integrating automation systems, and applying artificial intelligence in control, monitoring, and optimizing production lines. The center expects to train hundreds of students annually and serve as a foundation for applied research and technology transfer in the region.

Integrating robots and artificial intelligence into the training environment provides students direct access to equipment currently used in factories. This approach bridges the gap between education and practical production, helping students adapt quickly when working in businesses.

Huynh Phong Phu, general director of Kuka Vietnam, stated that promoting robot, automation, and artificial intelligence technologies in education enhances the connection between training and manufacturing. According to him, this approach helps improve the competitiveness of the domestic manufacturing sector.

Beyond training objectives, expanding operations in Central Vietnam also strengthens the company's technical support and service capabilities for customers in the region. As this area continues to attract large-scale manufacturing projects, the demand for automation solutions is projected to increase.

Under the 2026-2030 cooperation agreement, Kuka Vietnam will provide equipment to the center, dispatch experts to train instructors, organize specialized workshops, and conduct regular technology upgrades. A representative added that expanding operations in Central Vietnam is a step to enhance connections among businesses, training institutions, and the manufacturing sector. In an increasingly competitive industrial landscape, investing in technology and human resources is becoming a critical factor for manufacturing sector development.

Kuka is a company with over 125 years of history in industrial robots and automation solutions, headquartered in Germany. The company officially began operations in Vietnam in 2018, with offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Over time, the company has provided automation solutions to many domestic manufacturing enterprises.
