The "L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Vietnam National Fellowship" program, organized by L'Oreal and UNESCO, offers fellowships of up to 150 million VND to female researchers in the fields of life science and material science. These fields are considered modern, groundbreaking, and highly applicable.
Eligible applicants are female scientists no older than 45 (as of the application deadline) who hold a doctoral degree or are conducting postdoctoral research. They should be starting or currently undertaking a research project in one of the two mentioned fields, excluding cosmetics-related research. Applications must be submitted by 6 PM on 30/9.
An independent scientific council will select three outstanding candidates based on criteria including modernity, innovation, applicability, the ability to address global issues, clear language, scientific presentation, and research achievements. The council's decision is final. Results will be announced via email or phone.
Upon receiving the fellowship, recipients must commit to reporting their project results after two years, attending the L'Oreal-UNESCO award ceremony in Vietnam (expenses covered by L'Oreal), and participating in the program's non-commercial media activities (without additional compensation).

Launched in 1989, the "L'Oreal – UNESCO For Women in Science Vietnam" fellowship program honors the contributions of women in science who have overcome barriers to pursue their research passions and contribute to human civilization, planetary sustainability, and human health.
Each year, the "L’Oreal - UNESCO For Women in Science" award recognizes five outstanding female scientists nominated by leading scientists worldwide, each receiving a 100,000 Euro prize. To further support the research careers of scientists globally, the program expanded in 2000 to include the "International Rising Talents" award, honoring 15 female scientists annually from five continents, and research fellowships awarded in countries where L’Oreal operates.
In Vietnam, the program began in 2009. Applications are accepted annually from June to September. The independent L’Oreal - UNESCO For Women In Science Scientific Council in Vietnam selects three outstanding female scientists for fellowships and further nominates them for international fellowships and awards.
Associate Professor Doctor Nguyen Van Trang, deputy director of the Biomedical Research Center at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, a 2012 fellowship recipient, appreciates the program's mission of giving female scientists visibility.
"This invisibility sometimes stems not from external factors but from our own hesitation and apprehension. I used to feel that way too. This award has boosted my confidence by recognizing and valuing my work, and providing me with a network of fellow female scientists who are always ready to share and support each other", she said.
